We are close to the end of the oranges for this year, maybe 1000 or so out there on the trees. I have candied enough orange peel to fill an enormous plastic tub to last until the next harvest in June; Made marmalades for England......and still have ooodles to spare without a decent market.
Recently, I had heard orange juice works for eliminating mold. After a long rainy season my bridles and saddles were looking a little furry - maybe time to give it a try.
So, my maid was assigned to tack cleaning duty for the morning. She squeezed and strained the juice to get rid of the pulp. Then she dipped the bridles, saddles, stirrup leathers, girths and longing reins into the juice.
Amazing results. My horse tack is as soft as a babies bottom and supple and flexible. Wondering what else I can douse in orange juice. I think we will make this a regular ritual here on the coffee farm.
