Having consulted my Panama Reptiles cheat sheet, I think this is a Central American Coral Snake, a baby one. What differentiates it from other contenders is the way its head has a simple black and yellow band.
They are deadly venomous if they can get their teeth into you. In this case it was quite small and would have struggled to take hold of anything other than loose skin. Never the less, it has a mom and a dad somewhere - another way of saying, welly boots never seemed more attractive.
