My husband arrived at the weekend and said I needed a power washer to clean the glass roof on the terrace. There are no power washing machines here, everything needs to be done by hand. Our maid volunteered her brother in law. She said cheerfully, 'he is tall and skinny and does not weigh very much, he will be perfect for climbing on the glass roof'. He arrived an hour later, matching the description rather too well, and did the job.
When the bath tub was not draining properly it was our kind maid again who came to the rescue with her husband. Her husband is a plumber who came down in the pouring rain to sort us out. This is also the lady who has relatives with farms that grow blackberries, so I am never short of these delicious little fruits.
The maid herself was a referral from her half brother our caretaker. Who in turn had provided a couple of 'wives' to help out with various things from teaching us how to cook patacones to helping out dead heading the flowers in the garden.
In Boquete, the relative network is better than the yellow pages. Actually there is no yellow pages.
